Changing mindsets to recognize the potential of the Halal market!

As part of the activities aimed at raising awareness about Halal standards, Mr. Ramlan Bin Osman, Director of the Vietnam Halal Certification Authority (HALCERT), held insightful sharing sessions at the University of Danang and the Academy of Journalism and Communication in February and March 2025. These sessions not only helped students gain a deeper understanding of Halal standards but also opened up career opportunities in the rapidly growing Halal industry both in Vietnam and globally.

Session at the National Economics University: Halal and global market opportunities

The first session took place at the National Economics University, with a large number of students in attendance. Mr. Ramlan Bin Osman introduced the basics of Halal standards and clarified the importance of Halal certification for food products, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and other services. He particularly emphasized that Halal is not only for the Muslim community but also attracts global consumers due to the cleanliness and safety of Halal-certified products.

The representative from HALCERT shared: “Halal is an essential part of building global credibility and brand, especially for export products. Applying Halal standards opens up great opportunities for Vietnamese businesses when entering international markets, particularly in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.” This is especially relevant, considering most of the participating students are majoring in fields such as Economics, International Business, and International Trade at the Faculty of Commerce and International Economics, who will play a key role in Vietnam’s deeper and broader participation in the global Halal economy in the future.

Active student engagement and discussion

Throughout both sessions, students at the National Economics University and the Academy of Journalism and Communication actively participated and asked insightful questions about the technical requirements and career opportunities in the Halal industry. The questions revolved around implementing Halal standards in Vietnam, strategies for developing the Halal market, and challenges in applying Halal standards in production.

The importance of commitment from leadership

One of the highlights of the session was Mr. Ramlan’s remarks on the role of leadership in adopting Halal standards. He emphasized that, to effectively implement a Halal system, strong commitment from business leadership is essential, which in turn ensures systematic and sustainable Halal processes.

Mr. Ramlan stated: “Building an effective Halal system does not just depend on documents or processes, but must be backed by strong commitment from leadership and a professional team capable of execution. This is the key factor for a business to maintain Halal certification and grow sustainably.”

HALCERT continues to guide students in approaching Halal standards

The session by Mr. Ramlan Bin Osman was a great success, providing students with a deeper understanding of Halal standards and their importance in developing international markets and Halal marketing strategies. Through this, HALCERT continues to confirm its role as a pioneer in guiding and assisting Vietnamese businesses in seizing opportunities from Halal standards, contributing to building a solid foundation for the Halal industry in Vietnam. HALCERT hopes to have more opportunities to share this valuable knowledge and practical perspectives with students in the future, raising awareness of Halal in the student community and among the younger generation of Vietnam.
