Amid the rapid growth of the global Halal market, Vietnam is making strategic moves to harness the opportunities within this sector. Strategic collaboration with Halal powerhouses, particularly Malaysia, is opening up significant prospects, positioning Vietnam as a vital player in the regional Halal supply chain.
A notable milestone is the official visit of General Secretary To Lam to Malaysia in November 2024. This visit marked a pivotal moment as Vietnam and Malaysia elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This advancement not only strengthens bilateral ties but also unlocks vast opportunities for developing key industries, including the Halal sector.
Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Mr. Zafrul Tengku Aziz, emphasized Malaysia’s readiness to assist Vietnam in accessing global Halal markets and building a robust Halal ecosystem and supply chain.
Aquaculture – A Promising Sector
Vietnam’s aquaculture industry is steadily carving out its position in the global Halal market. According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), products such as pangasius fish have become increasingly popular in Halal markets, including Malaysia. Meeting stringent Halal standards not only helps expand market share but also boosts the global reputation of Vietnam’s seafood industry.

Halal Tourism – A Bridge of Culture and Economy
Halal tourism is another promising area in the Vietnam-Malaysia partnership. Major airlines like AirAsia are enhancing connectivity with direct flights between the two countries, paving the way for more Muslim travelers to explore Vietnam. Destinations such as Da Nang, Ninh Binh, and Son Tay are gaining attention from international visitors. Investments in Muslim-friendly services, such as Halal-certified accommodations and specialized tourism offerings, not only enhance visitor experiences but also contribute to the sustainable growth of Vietnam’s tourism industry. It is projected that such efforts will help Vietnam achieve its goal of attracting 17–18 million international visitors in 2024.
